David X's Bio:

Well, here's a little about me. I've lived in Sacramento since I was 6 years old, so I consider this my home. I got my first gig DJing at a roller rink when I was 14. Pretty cheesy, but it got me HOOKED. DJing in front of people becomes like a BAD drug habit. After you get high a couple of times, you can get COMPLETELY hooked…and I did!

Listening to DR. Don Rose on KFRC as a little kid in the 70’s kindled an interest in me for radio. In the mid 1980’s while I was in high school, a local DJ at KPOP named Bud Kress took me under his wing as an intern and started teaching me the basics of broadcasting. After graduating high school in 1986, I started hanging out in local nightclubs and started DJing professionally shortly thereafter at Club No Trend here in Sac. After that, I did a string of clubs here in Sacramento too numerous to even recall (Club U-matic, Second Level, Spectrum 90, The Pit, One Edge Up, The Amazon…etc).

A couple of years later, in 1989, I started doing radio at the local cable access station with a show called “Alternative Rhythms". It was great because it allowed me to blend my musical tastes for Modern Rock and Electronic music into one musical mix.

While there I met a guy named Michael Hayes. I lost track of Michael for a few years until I heard him on the air in early 1993. He was working at the new KWOD 106.5 “The Cutting Edge Of Rock". He was doing a new Sunday night show Called “Ambiance" playing Electronic/Synth-Pop music. I approached him about doing “mixes" for the show. He accepted. We worked together for 2 years on that show. It’s the MOST fun I’ve ever had doing radio! Maybe one day I’ll release the tapes! About the same time, the station also started the Alphabet club, a simulcast from The Rage nightclub on Friday nights. I did that for about 2 years as well. That was a blast!

Ambiance ending in the spring of 1995. I fumbled around for a few years doing mix shows for various radio stations here in the valley. Then, in late 1996 KWOD got a new Program Director. About a year later rumors got back to me that the station was interested in doing a beat-mixed show. Having a passion for Alternative & Electronic music I thought I fit the bill, so I approached the station about producing the show. In May of 1998 we started “Alternative Beat" on Saturday nights, which aired until March of 2005 (when we changed the name to X BEATS...cuz i'm SUCH an EGO-MANIAC!).

With Alternative Beat I was given the unique opportunity to not only “mix" Rock & Alternative music but also to mold the show into a representation Electronic music and the art of DJing, including representing many of the finest local DJ’s in the Northern California area.

X Beats continues to carry on that tradition as the show enters it's 10th YEAR! I am extremely pleased to be a part of KWOD as we continue to provide unique and creative radio to the Sacramento region.

Oh, and I collect gnomes!
