Bio:
Andy was born and raised on the mean streets of Carmichael pimpin’ and a Hoein’ Little League and band candy for a living. Now pimpin’ and Hoein’ is no way to grow up, so young Andy had a dream. A dream to have one of those cush’ radio jobs on the station that inspired his early yearnings and passion… not those yearnings! Andy’s early musical passions were fanned by listening to KWOD. So naturally he could not be happier to be the newest member of the KWOD team.
Andy graduated from Jesuit High school in 1996 where he then migrated to San Diego to pursue his media and beach bum dreams. Surviving near drowning and a concussion while shooting the La Jolla pier, not to mention several broken hearts at the cold hands of multiple buxom beach bunnies, Andy decided surfing star/bum was not his destiny. He re-doubled his efforts to make Alternative radio his life’s calling.
Andy returned to Sacramento in 2004 after spending eight years working at Alternative rock stations in San Diego and Phoenix. (Please, don’t ask about the "Great Saguaro Cactus Incident" while in Phoenix. He still carries scars, mental and physical, from the affair)
Since 2004 Mr. Hawk has worked closely with multiple Sacramento alternative and punk rock bands. Recently Andy Hawk received the 2006 Sammie Special Achievement Award for local media and promotion: for his work with the local and punk rock scene in Sacramento. Talk about local & punk rock cred’, Andy has it oozing from his pores, along with an occasional cactus spin.
When you hear Andy on 106.5 KWOD, please give him a hearty… "Hey dork, play my song", just like you do the rest of the KWOD staff.
